Job Title: Urban Planner

Department: Planning and Entitlement

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Reports To: Director of Engineering Management


Job Summary

As an urban planner at Sustainability Engineering Group (SEG), you will play a pivotal role in the development of urban landscapes, guiding projects from conception to execution. You will collaborate with architects, engineers, and other professionals to create functional and aesthetically pleasing urban spaces while ensuring their adherence to regulatory and environmental standards. 

About the job:

The functional areas and responsibilities of an Urban Planner are as follows:

  1. Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement urban planning strategies and concepts.
  2. Utilize AutoCAD and other design software to create detailed site plans, layouts, and drawings.
  3. Conduct site analyses, including assessments of existing infrastructure, land use, and environmental factors.
  4. Participate in community engagement and stakeholder meetings to gather input and feedback.
  5. Prepare and present comprehensive urban planning proposals and reports to clients and regulatory bodies.
  6. Evaluate the impact of proposed developments on transportation, utilities, and the environment. 
  7. Stay up to date with zoning regulations, land use policies, and urban planning best practices.
  8. Assist in the preparation of permit applications and regulatory compliance documentation.
  9. Collaborate with architects and engineers to ensure integrated design solutions.
  10. Contribute to the development of sustainable and resilient urban design principles.
  11. Support the project management team in budgeting and scheduling tasks.


Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the architecture and engineering industry with a focus on urban planning  (Planning/Entitlements and project management, plans review).
  3. Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant design software.
  4. Strong understanding of urban planning principles, zoning codes, and land use regulations.
  5. Excellent communication and presentation skills
  6. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  7. Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work. 
  8. Knowledge of sustainable urban design practices and principles is a plus.
  9. Professional certification in urban planning or related field is preferred.
