We have an opening in our Houston office for an Urban Planner.
Under the supervision of the Landscape Architect and Urban Design leader, assist and participate in a wide range of small and large scale projects in domestic master planning, urban design and landscape design, including mixed use, corporate campus and office, commercial, resort/hospitality, residential, education, healthcare, urban resilience, urban landscape planning and transit-oriented development projects; participate in all phases of design projects, including design competitions requiring expedited concept development and document production, conceptual master planning, schematic design, design development and construction document production; identify site opportunities and constraints and make conclusions and recommendations; facilitate visioning and goal setting session, develop understanding of the perceptions and aspirations of the client, stakeholders and the broader community, determine planning and urban design principles; analyze sketches, photographs, topography maps, aerial maps, notes, and site survey of existing conditions and other input material to determine land use development strategies; prepare analysis drawings, Illustrative conceptual and schematic design drawings including slope analysis drawings, conceptual diagrams and plans, development plans, entitlement plans, access and circulation plans, land use plans, grading plans, planting plans, drainage plans and open space plans; solve technical issues of design in relation to sites and buildings; write meeting minutes and memoranda to inform design team about project progress; analyze and develop design concept of buildings and spaces using freehand sketching, including pencil, ink, color pencil, and markers; prepare 2D/3D exhibits for presentations, reports and documentations, including plans, elevations, sections and perspective view renderings, using 2D/3D software including Revit BIM software, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, SketchUp, Lumion, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign; build physical models using 3D Print technology; collaborate and coordinate with professional rendering consultants to produce photorealistic digital renderings and water color renderings; incorporate LEED sustainable design principles for master planning and urban design, assist in establishing LEED sustainable design criteria and calculate LEED Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) points using LEED Calculator and Scorecard; integrate innovative sustainable design strategies into project work at the planning level and in specific site design to enhance the urban resiliency; use Best Management Practices and Low-Impact Design to mitigate development impacts; coordinate information, deliverables, and other input with client representatives for project approvals; participate in meetings, workshops and on-site charrettes with clients and consultants; present the design concepts and design development at various stages of the project to the clients and public; coordinate with architects, landscape architects and civil engineers to bring planning projects into SD/DD/CD phases; assist responding to RFI and RFP from clients; assist in establishing practical strategies to support the implementation of the planning and design principles; coordinate with traffic, transit, transportation, civil engineering, entertainment, landscape, code, security, parking, lighting, zoning, signage, marketing/branding, historic preservation and adaptive reuse and waste management consultants to incorporate multidisciplinary expertise and engineering systems into unified design for client and agency review and approval; coordinate project data and transmission and all electronic communications utilizing project information management software, including Newforma; assist in establishing task schedule and manpower requirements consistent with the project agreement; assist in identifying weekly project requirements and projecting long term needs; assist with project consultant agreements and project budgets; assist with reviewing and approving consultant payments.
Job Requirements:
